    Speed up Vista Boot Time

Currently my Vista laptop boots in 1 minute and 30 seconds (and that's after disabling many startup applications, services, and "Windows Features" :eek4: ), whereas my XP desktop boots in under 30 seconds!

Immediately after the Aurora welcome screen, the screen turns black (cursor appears and is functional) and remains that way for approximately 30 seconds before finally loading the start bar, desktop background, icons, etc.

Any Vista users here know any other methods to speed up boot time?

If it's any help, it's Windows Vista Home Premium running on a 1.66 GHz Core 2 Duo, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB HDD, and integrated Intel chipset for graphics (don't plan on gaming on it, and I got it for a darn good deal)

You should try to turn off some Vista service which you dont need like : Tablet Service, Windows Media Network Sharing, media center...
Uninstall some Windows application like : Tablet Input..., Media Center in Control Panel (Turn windows feature on/off)

Sorry for My bad at English Language. I'm vietnamese student.

I've heard that ReadyBoost, which is a built in feature of vista, improves boot time by a lot, although you need like a usb flash device that can read/write quickly enough.

What are your processor and RAM specs?

If you want to get started now, run 'msconfig' and under the Startup tab you'll see a list of stuff. That list is of every program that runs the moment your system boots. Google the ones you are unfamiliar with (you can see the filepaths), and disable them.

Also, memory hogging software like Norton significantly slows down your boot time!

Good grief, your processor stats are even better than mine! I suggest you start going through msconfig's startup tab and disabling the various things that startup (some are important; if you're unsure if you need it, Google it)
