Windows Vista RC1 Available to the Masses

Thank you for your interest in Windows Vista Release Candidate 1.

This page includes information to help you download the Windows Vista RC1 ISO file. Once you complete the download you must burn the ISO file to a DVD. If you don’t know if your DVD-burning software will support burning an ISO file, please refer to your DVD-burning software program and search Help for instructions on creating a disc from an ISO file. Additional instructions can be found on the Customer Preview Program website.

Before upgrading from Beta 2 to RC1, please install any Critical Updates from Windows Update for Beta 2. Go to Start, All Programs, Windows Update, and click the “Check for Updates” button.

Windows Vista RC1 is available for participants of the Windows Vista Customer Preview Program. Please go to the Customer Preview Program website to register and receive a Product Key, which is required to install and activate the software.
Thats what it says here: http://download.windowsvista.com/pre...n/download.htm

    GO DOWNLOAD IT NOW!!

Note: There is 64bit and x86.

    Get your key here: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkID=67708

Compress the iso to a multi-part zip file, each just shy of 700mb (maybe 650 for safety?), so they can be burned onto a cd.

Take said discs to a friends house, extract the iso back out to his hard drive, and hijack his burner

Cheezy way to do it, but it'll work (cept you might need to replace 'friends house' with 'schools computer' in some cases, like mine).

The other option is find someone who has a dvd burner who'll download vista rc1, then snail-mail it to ya. That one's a bit more tricky though, there aren't alot of people comfortable with giving out addy's, and even fewer who'll actually burn it and mail it anyways :S

I'm gunna be needing to do the first option myself, I got a stack of 100 cd-r's and 50 dvd-r's, but, you'll love this, I don't have a burner and haven't had one for a year (gift for mah birthday was dvd-r's XD).

Could always buy a new one off of newegg.com though, I hear BenQ's a good brand to look at

Use deamon tools to mount the image in Windows Xp and install from there, AFTER you have created an NTFS partition on your drive. When installing, install to the new partition you created and you will have successfully dualbooted your system.

Re: Windows Vista RC1 Available to the Masses

It will do the changes during setup but the drive first has to be in NTFS you can't make a fat drive and expect to install Vista cause it can't make the changes from that type of file system. You can't format the drive during setup if your bualbooting. The partition has to be made first in NTFS

Re: Windows Vista RC1 Available to the Masses

Let me clarify a bit. When making a dualboot system you have to partition the drive. To do that I use "Partition Magic" in this program if you create a new partition it will either let you do it in Fat or NTFS. NTFS can be converted to UDF through the install process of Vista. If you create a partition that is FAT Vista will not be able to convert it to UDF and your install will fail.
